Destination #1: Brentwood

Hi and welcome, fellow explorers!

We picked our first city, Brentwood, by total accident. We heard a radio ad a few weeks ago on 560 KSFO, which was promoting a corn festival that Brentwood is famous for. It just so happened to be taking place the weekend after we decided to start doing these trips, so the decision was obvious. Technically, we were supposed to draw city names out of a 'hat', but we didn't want to miss this opportunity. So, here is our post about our adventures in Brentwood.

We visited Brentwood two separate Sundays. Our first Sunday was the Corn Festival. The Chamber of Commerce has been hosting the festival for over 20 years. Brentwood is particularly known for its corn and cherries, and the festival is a way of supporting and highlighting local businesses.

We got to the Corn Festival in the afternoon. They hold it in a large empty field in the middle of the city. There were a lot of people (more than we expected) when we got there, and we could hear mariachi music playing as we walked to the front to buy our tickets.

There was a cute little petting zoo. The baby bunnies, ducks, chickens, and goats were really cute. The bigger animals like the llama, alpaca, and baby cow weren't as pettable.

 This picture isn't 'corny'.

 There were rubber duck races!

If you played with a few players and won, you got to keep your ducks, or you could buy them. Well, we bought ours. It took us a few minutes to find ones that matched our personalities. Jason won 2 out of 3. The female duck had some swimming difficulties.

One of the vendor stalls sold sports memorabilia and they had some Giants World Series rings (remakes of them of course) so Jason had some fun trying those on. There was a raffle to win them too, but we didn't win.

There was a band called Como La Flor that sang Selena songs. She looked a lot like her too. There were a lot of people out there dancing.

Finally, we got to the corn eating portion of our adventure.

We enjoyed the corn. They had a bunch of different things you could put on it. They were buttery and delicious.

We had a pretty good time walking around, listening to music, and visiting the stalls, and were on our way out of the festival when we spotted something that was epic and amazing. DANCING CABALLOS!

Jason was laughing so uncontrollably as we watched the horses get their groove on to the mariachi music.

The band had what seemed like 30 people, crowding the stage, with a bunch of trumpet players and one mandatory tuba player.

We laughed our way to the car and had a private horse dance in front of us as we were getting in, which made us laugh even more, and we joked about Ivy (our non-adventurous cat) dancing when she sees birds outside instead of chittering.

The next part of our Brentwood adventure will be in another post. It'll cover the museum, the city, and some flirty statues we encountered.

Until the next adventure!

<3 Katrina and Jason
